HP Files Patent Infringement Complaint Against Acer

March 27, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Hewlett Packard (HP) has filed a lawsuit in the U.S District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, seeking to prevent Acer Inc. and its U.S. subsidiary, Acer America, from selling computers in the United States.

"HP today is taking necessary action to protect its intellectual property against unauthorized use," the company said in its statement. The five patents named in the complaint cover technologies such as read/write optical drives, power management in notebooks, and digital bus arrangement.

Acer issued a brief statement, commenting only that the company "Respects the intellectual properties of third parties and is currently conducting a full investigation of these allegations made by Hewlett-Packard."
