GE Energy Selected for New Wind Energy Projects in France

April 28, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

GE Energy (Atlanta, GA), a supplier of power generation and energy delivery technology, announced that its wind turbine technology has been selected for projects at six sites in the Massif Central region of southern France. Together, the projects will add 57 MW of wind-generated electric capacity to the country's energy mix, increasing France's current installed wind capacity by nearly 15%.

The projects were sold April 7, 2005, and were financed by BNP Paribas (Paris). GE Energy and Cégélec Energy Division, the leading prime contractor for wind farm installations in France, will supply installation services through a joint EPC contract, and also will provide maintenance services for five years. Comprising 38 of GE’s 1.5 MW wind turbines, the projects will provide power to Électricité de France, under 15-year contracts. Completion of the projects is expected by the end of 2005.

Thirty-nine megawatts of new wind capacity will be located at four sites in the area of Ally/Mercoeur, including Les Moulins des Bessadous, Les Moulins a Vent du Monteil, Les Moulins de Versailles and Ferme Eolienne de Mercoeur. The remaining 18 MW of wind power capacity will be installed at two sites in the Cham de Cham Longe area: Eole Cevennes and Les Moulins de Bel Air.
