Fuel Cells Installed for Testing at Offutt Air Force Base

News Dec 19, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Two fuel cells have been installed at Offutt Air Force Base as part of a cooperative project for the base to test the reliability of fuel cells. The US Army Corps of Engineers, IdaTech Corp. (Bend, OR), a fuel cell system/component and fuel cell solutions provider, and the Omaha Public Power District are involved.

The new systems each generate up to 4.6 kW of electricity - enough to power an average home. The fuel cells are an alternative energy source, similar to batteries. The cells do not run down or require recharging. The project will show how the cells perform and provide experience for future installation, maintenance and operation of fuel cells.
