FPL Energy Announces 144MW Wind Farm

August 05, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

FPL Energy LLC (Juno Beach, FL), a subsidiary of FPL Group Inc. (Juno Beach, FL), announced it will build, own and operate what is claimed to currently be the largest wind project in Wyoming. FPL Energy will construct 80 1.8MW wind turbines at a site in Uinta County, approximately 10 miles northeast of Evanston in southwestern Wyoming. The turbines will have a generating capacity of 144MW, providing enough electricity to power more than 43,000 homes.

The company said the output from the facility is fully contracted on a long-term basis. Construction of the project will begin later this year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2003. The project was developed by Orion Energy LLC (Oakland, CA).
