December 14, 2009 by Jeff Shepard

Falcon Electric, Inc., a manufacturer of on-line power conversion and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems for mission-critical military electronic applications, announced the completion of a joint-development project with CIS Secure Computing. CIS specializes in TEMPEST and other secure communications solutions for the U.S. Government, NATO, and other entities.

"CIS is constantly responding to the highly specialized needs of our customers. A recent project for the Department of Defense required a rugged rack mount UPS to protect sophisticated electronics housed inside an aircraft," said John Turner, Vice President and General Manager of CIS Secure Computing. "The Falcon ED Series™ 2400VA rack mount unit met the project’s general specifications and through collaboration with Falcon engineering, we were able to further customize the product to meet the additional requirements that were unique to the project. Falcon’s support has been superb throughout the entire process. With Falcon, we have found a solid technology partner with a similar customer-focused quality standard."

In this application, Falcon’s ED-2400VA was customized to meet aircraft crash safety, shock and vibration, power, and thermal requirements. These exacting standards are outlined in the DO-160E military specification, developed by the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics, focuses on the performance characteristics and environmental testing for airborne equipment.
