Evercel Receives Order for $2.0 Million Worth of EV Batteries

January 04, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Evercel Inc. (Danbury, CT) received an order for 3,250 of its 1.5kWh nickel-zinc batteries, worth about $2.0 million from Oxygen SpA (Padua, Italy). The first 600 batteries are to be delivered in the first quarter of 2001 for use in Oxygen's Lepton-E electric scooters.

Oxygen will sell and distribute the Lepton-E, using Evercel's batteries, in Italy and throughout Europe. The scooter will also be sold and distributed in the US through Zapworld.Com (Sebastopol, CA). The remainder of the order, 2,650 batteries, is scheduled for delivery during the remainder of the year. Additional volume has been forecast, but is not included in the order at this time.

“Our partnership with Oxygen is an important part of our strategy to introduce high-performance and cost-competitive electric scooters to early-adopter markets in Europe and in Asia," commented Robert L. Kanode, president and CEO of Evercel. He added, “It's a nice bonus that we will now have access to these scooters here in the US via Zapworld.Com."
