Ecostar Electric Powertrains Supplies Converters for Sungate WeatherMaster Windshield System

January 17, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Ecostar Electric Powertrain (Dearborn, MI) announced that they are supplying their high efficiency 14V/42V dc/dc converter to PPG for their Sungate WeatherMaster windshield system, which is being shown by invitation at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The PPG Sungate WeatherMaster windshield system is designed to provide vehicle operators with the year-round benefits of infrared energy reflection combined with the convenience of automatic deicing and defogging during the winter months.

Originally developed in preparation for industry conversion to 42V vehicle power systems, the windshield now performs through the use of an Ecostar high-efficiency 14V to 42V dc/dc power converter. The Ecostar dc/dc converter boosts the voltage to the windshield from the standard automotive 14V to 42V. Features of the converter include over- and under-voltage protection.

“We have been impressed by the performance of the Sungate WeatherMaster windshield and are excited at the potential of supplying production volumes of our 42V dc/dc converter in the near term," commented Ross Witschonke, president and CEO of Ecostar.
