March 26, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Eaton Corp. is collaborating with HP to provide customers a single power and cooling solution for mission-critical data centers, built upon Eaton's PowerChain Management™ solutions and HP's Adaptive Enterprise technologies. The solutions provide IT and facilities' customers an integrated approach for managing the power and cooling needs of dense IT infrastructures from the power substation to the data center and on to server and storage hardware.

"This effort is the next step in our decade-long work with HP to support innovation on the data center floor, and it connects that activity with Eaton's traditional strength in complete facility electrical systems," said Randy Carson, Eaton senior vice president and president Electrical Group. "By linking our power solutions and facility monitoring capabilities into HP's industry-leading enterprise solutions, we are able to provide a more seamless service offering and help customers meet their reliability and energy management challenges."

"Innovative approaches to power protection and power distribution are essential to the adoption of intelligent, IT infrastructures such as HP BladeSystem," said Paul Perez, vice president, Storage, Networking and Infrastructure, Industry Standard Servers, HP. "By working with Eaton, we can bring the optimal power solution to the customer using leading capabilities at the room, row, or rack level and combine it with HP's proven expertise in IT management and cooling."

Management solutions take a system-wide, life-cycle approach to managing a company's entire chain of electrical systems to prevent power disturbances, and to make systems that are running, run more effectively. Everything from wiring, switches, generators and power protection equipment, to monitoring and communications systems are part of a complete entity, or power chain. The holistic management approach offered by PowerChain Management solutions provides greater reliability, improved operational efficiencies and enhanced safety.

"We are leading the industry with our PowerChain Management™ solutions, steering enterprises to be more efficient energy users simply by exploring what's working and what could be improved in day-to-day operations," said Carson. "By working together, Eaton and HP will revolutionize the way electrical power systems are managed in the data center."
