County Officials Preview Largest US Roof-Mounted Solar Array

June 12, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

What is being touted as the US’s largest roof-mounted solar array, installed atop Santa Rita Jail (Alameda County, CA), was recently previewed by Almeda County’s supervisors and the county’s General Services Agency. The 500kW solar array, which was designed, manufactured and installed by PowerLight Corp. (Berkeley, CA) is already partially up and running. It will be completed in late July 2001.

“It’s great to be a part of a project that’s environmentally friendly and saves taxpayers money. We admire Alameda County for its vision in initiating this approach,” said PowerLight President and CEO Tom Dinwoodie.
