BAE Systems Awarded $9.4 Million US Military Contract

August 29, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

BAE Systems Controls (Johnson City, NY) has been awarded a $9.4 million contract from Kongsberg Protech AS (Norway), a mechanical production company, to supply the thermal imaging module for the remote weapon station on the US Army's Tank Automotive and Armaments Command Stryker vehicle. The Stryker, an eight-wheeled armored vehicle, provides infantry protection in open terrain and quick transport to battlefield positions. The initial production contract with Kongsberg Protech will require delivery starting in late 2005.

The TIM1500 imaging module program will provide Stryker with an advanced, uncooled, thermal imaging camera that identifies targets deep in the battlefield day and night in all weather conditions. Developed and produced at BAE Systems' IR Imaging facility in Lexington, MA, the TIM1500 uses MicroIR microbolometer-based technology.

"The TIM1500 provides the extended range and performance necessary to achieve the mission," stated BAE Systems' Stryker TIM1500 Program Manager Bruce Musicant. "We are proud to provide the US Army with this advanced capability for the benefit of the war fighter."
