Artesyn Technologies Enters into Agreement with e-Power

January 30, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Artesyn Technologies Inc. (Boca Raton, FL) announced that it entered into a Product Development and Technology Transfer Agreement with e-Power Co. Ltd (Zhejiang, China). Artesyn's manufactured products, designed by e-Power, are scheduled for market introduction in first quarter 2001.

Under the agreement, products in the 65W to 130W range are being developed to address the fastest growing segments of the external ac/dc adapter market. According to the Darnell Group (Corona, CA) the target market segment addressed by e-Power's design is expected to grow 16 percent to 18 percent from 2000 to 2005. The overall market for external power supplies is expected to grow from $2.7 billion to $4.6 billion in 2005. Target applications for e-Power's designs are Internet access devices, xDSL modems, portable computing and external storage devices.

Joseph M. O'Donnell, CEO of Artesyn Technologies, stated, "We are enthused with the e-Power agreement for primarily two reasons. First, e-Power will allow Artesyn to introduce a greater number of products into the Internet Access Market faster. Second, it puts Artesyn in a position to capitalize on the communication market's trend toward external power solutions versus traditional internal power architecture."

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
