ArrayPower Taps Amonix, Northrop Grumman Vet to Lead Engineering Team

June 18, 2012 by Jeff Shepard

ArrayPower, a Silicon Valley-based power electronics company, announced the appointment of Paul Russell to senior vice president of engineering. Russell brings to ArrayPower more than 25 years of experience in technology development for companies in the solar, aerospace and defense industries.

In his new role, Russell will oversee next-generation advancements to the ArrayPower Sequenced Inverter, which converts the dc power produced by solar modules into three-phase ac power for use in commercial-scale solar installations. Through supply agreements with module manufacturers, the Sequenced Inverter is fully integrated during module production to create a plug-and-play ac solution. Sequenced Inverter-equipped ac modules deliver enhanced system energy output while reducing system installation and maintenance costs.

"I was drawn to the disruption potential of the Sequenced Inverter, which offers a new level of performance for commercial-scale systems at an attractive price point," said Paul Russell, senior vice president of engineering for ArrayPower. "I look forward to working alongside my ArrayPower teammates to further bolster the capabilities of the Sequenced Inverter and improve the economics of solar in one of its fastest-growing market sectors."

Prior to joining ArrayPower, Russell served as senior vice president of engineering for concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar systems provider Amonix, where he helped the company decrease product costs by more than 20 percent while increasing power output by 15 percent.

Additional experience includes multiple executive positions with Northrop Grumman and Space Systems/Loral, as well as systems engineering roles with Ford Aerospace. Russell holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Santa Clara University.

"While Paul’s stellar resume speaks for itself, we were impressed by his drive and the fresh ideas he brings to our operations," said Wendy Arienzo, CEO of ArrayPower. "We’re confident Paul is the perfect candidate to lead ArrayPower into its next phase of product development and attract new partners as Sequenced Inverter-equipped AC modules gain traction at home and abroad."
