Apollo Energy Receives Hydrogen Fuel Cell Order

February 11, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

A $223.0 million order for hydrogen fuel cells was given to Apollo Energy Systems Inc. (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) by Hydrolec Inc. (Jacksonville, FL) on January 17, 2002. The order calls for shipment of 2,000 Apollo power plants per month to Hydrolec starting in 2002.

Each power plant consists of a 10kW Apollo alkaline fuel cell, a 12kWh lead-cobalt battery, a dc-to-ac inverter and other hardware that will be used as backup power for hydraulic and electric elevator systems in the US and 44 foreign countries.

"During these unexpected power interruptions, people are often stranded between floors in elevators for hours. In some countries, grid power failure occurs several times a day. Our customers will be happy to know that they can now guarantee reliable elevator service 24-hours a day," said Hydrolec CEO Kim Kawasaki, who serves on the advisory board of directors of Apollo.
