American Superconductor and GE Industrial Systems Announce Joint Alliance

April 13, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

American Superconductor (Westborough, MA) and GE Industrial Systems announced a marketing and sales alliance to provide American Superconductor's superconducting magnetic energy-storage (SMES) systems to utility and industrial customers. The SMES device is applied to improve customers' electrical power performance during system disturbances and high-load conditions.

Under the agreement terms, GE has exclusive rights to offer the distributed SMES product line in the US to utilities. GE also has the right to sell American Super-Conductor Industrial Power Quality-SMES systems to certain GE global industrial accounts.

GE Industrial Systems and American Superconductor plan to launch the co-branded SMES offering at the Transmission and Distribution World Expo in Cincinnati during the week of April 23.
