The following is a listing (with links for the full story) of the most read Product News stories on PowerPulse.Net for 2015, thus providing a window into the "pulse" of the trends and interests in the Power Electronics Industry. This is the Third article in the series, which will continue tomorrow.

#30: SiC Module jointly-developed by Panasonic and Sansha

Panasonic Corporation and Sansha Electric Manufacturing Co., Ltd., which offers the SanRex brand, announced that they have developed a very compact SiC power module together with highly efficient operation of power switching systems. The SiC power module has sufficiently good reliability and greatly helps to reduce the size of power switching systems such as industrial inverters and power supplies. more

#29: Digital Isolators Provide up to 2W of Isolated Power

Silicon Laboratories, Inc. introduced a new family of high-speed, multi-channel digital isolators designed to provide a complete, highly-integrated solution for signal and power isolation. Silicon Labs' new Si88xx isolators feature an integrated dc-dc converter with 78% efficiency, deliver up to 2W of power, and offer very low EMI emissions and high noise immunity. The Si88xx family reduces system cost, speeds time-to-market and enhances reliability for applications in harsh, noisy operating environments including factory automation, process control, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), solar inverters and automotive battery management. more

#28: 400W High-Efficiency Power Supplies with 249 to 528 Vac Input

ROAL Electronics announces the release of a new series of very-compact, lightweight, high-efficiency 400W ac-dc power supplies called DDP400HV. This new series of high input voltage power supplies operates at the worldwide input voltage range of 277/347/480Vac. The DDP400-HV eliminates the need for a front end step-down transformer when applied on a single or three-phase input voltage ranging from 249Vac up to 528Vac. more

#27: 98% Efficient DC-DCs deliver up to 2,870 W/in3

Vicor Corporation announced the expansion of its Bus Converter Module (BCM®) series of isolated, fixed conversion ratio, dc-dc converters. The new converters, which combine Vicor's sine-amplitude dc-dc conversion technology with Vicor's unique thermally adept Converter housed in Package (ChiP) packaging technology, feature more than five times the output power capability, 25% lower heat loss and over four times the power density of best-in-class contemporary products. more

#26: Batteries handle 90% Charge in 15 Minutes

Enevate Corporation announces ultrafast charging for their batteries with HD-Energy® Technology. Enevate's ultrafast charging feature has been demonstrated to provide a 90% charge in 15 minutes (4C charge rate) while increasing energy, capacity and performance when compared to today's conventional Li-ion batteries. Enevate has developed advanced Li-ion batteries based on new materials and cell designs with significantly higher volumetric and gravimetric energy density in thinner and lighter form factors, and with significantly higher charging rates than current conventional Li-ion batteries. more

#25: 100A / 1200V Silicon-Carbide Hybrid Module

Fuji Electric Corp. of America has announced the introduction of a new silicon-carbide hybrid module for the North American market, which allows for smaller, lighter system packages due to its higher switching speed and increased efficiency over full-silicon power modules. The new module, which is the latest generation product in the company's portfolio, began shipping to customers earlier this month and boasts temperature stability and virtually no reverse recovery loss. more

#24: 1200V / 300A SiC Power Module

ROHM has announced the development of a 1200V/300A full SiC power module designed for inverters and converters in solar power conditioners and industrial equipment. The 300A rated current makes the BSM300D12P2E001 suitable for high power applications such as large-capacity power supplies for industrial equipment. In addition, 77% lower switching loss vs. conventional IGBT modules enables high-frequency operation, contributing to smaller cooling countermeasures and peripheral components. more

#23: 600V MOSFETs approach "Perfect" Switching

STMicroelectronics has extended its popular MDmeshâ„¢ M2 series of N-channel power MOSFETs with the introduction of a new family of devices that claim the industry's highest power efficiencies in power supplies for servers, laptops, telecom, and consumer applications, especially under light-load conditions. With these new devices, designers can create switching power conversion solutions that are lighter and more compact, while more easily meeting increasingly stringent energy-efficiency targets. more

#22: Trench-Type SiC MOSFET has 50% Lower On-Resistance

ROHM Co., Ltd. announced the development and mass production of an SiC MOSFET that adopts the world's first trench structure. Compared to existing planar-type SiC MOSFETs, ON resistance is reduced by 50% in the same chip size, making it possible to significantly decrease power loss in a variety of equipment, from industrial inverters and power supplies to power conditioners for solar power systems. more

#21: 5A Charger IC Cuts Charge Time up to 60%

Enabling faster and cooler charging, Texas Instruments, Inc. (TI) introduced the industry's first fully integrated 5-A single-cell lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery-charger circuit with proprietary MaxCharge technology that reduces charge time up to 60 percent compared to existing battery chargers. The bq25892 switch-mode charger gives users a safer charging experience while still maximizing the benefits of a faster charge time, currently unseen in the industry. MaxCharge technology provides faster charge times and cooler charging to improve user experience and extend the overall life of electronics in many Li-ion applications, including smartphones, tablets, drones, power banks, and industrial and medical equipment. more
