XPiQ Presents PCM80 External Medical Power Supply

June 01, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

XPiQ Inc. (Holliston, MA), a worldwide manufacturer and supplier of ac-dc and dc-dc power supply products, announced its new PCM80 80 W external power supply for medical applications, which comes in a package measuring 6.63 in x 3.07 in x 1.97 in and weighing 800 g. Available in a choice of 15 single-output, 9 dual-output and 6 triple-output versions, it features less than 300 µA leakage current at 230 Vac and has 4,000 Vac isolation from input to ground -- both essential requirements for patient safety.

To comply with European safety agency requirements, both line and neutral are fused. Active power-factor correction ensures EN61000-3-2,-3 compliance and the power supply operates at 83% typical efficiency with noise and ripple of less than 1% peak-to-peak. The PCM80 has a universal ac input of 90 Vac to 240 Vac and line regulation of ±1% maximum at full rated load. Load regulation is within ±5%, except for the 3.3 V model, where it is within ±7%. Over-voltage protection is provided on output 1 and over-current protection, with auto recovery, applies to all outputs. The power supply operates from 0 °C to +70 °C ambient with linear de-rating from 100% load at +40 °C to 50% load at +70 °C.
