XP Power has announced the LBA series, a new family of low-profile enclosed, chassis-mount, single-output AC-DC power supplies. Spanning power levels from 35 W to 350 W, the new series is targeted at cost-sensitive industrial technology applications. The company’s primary goal of this lineup is to provide engineers with a versatile, reliable, and easily integrated platform for industrial automation, security and surveillance systems, lighting control, and smart home and building control equipment.

Traditional power supplies in this category often struggle to balance cost, size, and thermal efficiency. The LBA series mitigates these challenges by combining compact form factors with robust performance, ensuring accurate power delivery in demanding industrial environments.

 

Voltage Adjustability and Compact Design

The LBA series provides regulated single-output voltages ranging from 5 V to 48 VDC, depending on the specific model. A key technical feature is its output adjustment capability, which allows engineers to trim the voltage to compensate for system tolerances or voltage drops along long cable runs. This ensures precise voltage delivery at the point of load, ultimately improving overall system performance and reliability.

Coupled with a universal 90 to 264 VAC input range and active power factor correction (PFC), the supplies offer flexible operation for global applications. In terms of physical footprint, the lower power ratings are particularly compact. The 35 W and 50 W models measure just 99 x 82 x 30 mm, while the 75 W model sits at 99 x 97 x 30 mm. These dimensions make the LBA series smaller than many competing alternatives in the same power class, freeing up valuable space in constrained industrial control panels and enclosures.

 

Thermal Management and Efficient Operation

Operating with an efficiency of up to 90%, the LBA series significantly minimizes parasitic heat generation, a critical factor for maintaining reliability in enclosed industrial systems. Because the power supplies operate highly efficiently, thermal constraints are relaxed, allowing for simpler cooling strategies.

For models up to 200 W, the supplies utilize convection cooling for completely fanless operation. This eliminates mechanical points of failure and is highly advantageous for noise-sensitive environments or sealed enclosures where active air circulation is limited or unwanted.

The highest capacity 350 W variant incorporates fan cooling to safely manage the increased power density without overheating. Across the entire series, a wide operating temperature range of -30°C to +70°C ensures consistent and reliable performance across harsh environmental conditions.

Robustness and System Integration

The physical design of the LBA series focuses heavily on safety and environmental resilience. The enclosed, chassis-mount construction provides enhanced structural robustness and protects the internal electronics from dust and accidental contact—a common requirement on active factory floors.

To streamline the compliance process, the series holds worldwide ITE safety approvals. Class I construction with a protective earth connection provides a defined grounding path, aiding compliance with strict end-equipment safety requirements and protecting operators. Furthermore, Class B compliance for conducted and radiated emissions eliminates the need for bulky, external EMC filtering, stripping away additional system complexity and component cost.

Integration is further simplified by an integrated screw terminal block connector cover to improve installation safety, and a power-on LED indicator for immediate visual status confirmation. Select models also include remote ON/OFF functionality for advanced system control. Standard hardware safeguards, including short circuit, overvoltage, and overload protection, protect both the power supply and the attached load.
