XP Power Launches SMC500/600 Series Power Supplies
XP Power plc (Sunnyvale, CA), a provider of ac-dc power supplies and dc-dc converter power solutions, launched its new SMC500/SMC600 Series of 500 W/600 W ac-dc switchers, which deliver up to 80% higher power than the nominal rating for up to 500 msec. Peak loads can be handled by a smaller, less expensive power supply than would otherwise be necessary. In addition, efficiency is maximized and wasted heat is minimized.
The SMC500/SMC600 single-output power supplies have universal ac inputs of 90 Vac to 264 Vac with active power-factor correction and output voltages from 3.3 Vdc to 54 Vdc, adjustable by ±5%. Where more than 600 W is needed, one version can deliver 800 W with high line (180 Vac to 246 Vac) input or integral O-ring diodes that can be used to facilitate current sharing. All models come in a 9.17 in x 4.25 in x 2.5 in (233 mm x 108 mm x 63.5 mm) housing and are complete with cover and fan for easy mechanical and electrical installation. They do not need external cooling arrangements. Efficiency is at least 80% with 230 Vac input for outputs above 5 V and 70% minimum for 5 V and 3.3 V output versions.
Comprehensive control and protection features include remote on/off, remote sense, over-voltage and under-voltage protection, overload protection and over-temperature protection. The power supplies meet international safety agency approvals and EMC standards.
The SMC500 and SMC600 are priced at $181 and $198 each, respectively, based on 1,000-unit quantities.
