Vishay Offers 8-Diode ESD Protection Array in Compact Package for Board Space Savings

April 02, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced the release of what it claims is the industry’s first ESD protection array to integrate eight diodes in the very small, leadless LLP1713 package. With an extremely low profile of 0.55mm, the VESD05A8A-HNH is designed to provide ESD protection while saving board space in portable electronics for mobile computing, mobile communication, consumer, industrial, automotive, and medical applications.

The new device protects up to eight signal or data lines in bidirectional asymmetrical (BiAs) mode, and can also be used as a seven-line protection device in bidirectional symmetrical (BiSy) mode. The ESD diode array features a low typical capacitance of 30pF and a low maximum leakage current of <1µA at 5V.

The VESD05A8A-HNH provides transient protection for one data line as per IEC6100042 (ESD) at 25kV (air and contact discharge) and IEC6100045 (lightning) from 4.5A (tp=8/20µs). It is also compliant with RoHS2002/95/EC and WEEE2002/96/EC.

Samples of the new 8-diode protection array in the compact LLP1713 package are available now. Production quantities will be available in Q2 2007, with lead times of 10 to 12 weeks for large orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery is $12.00/100 pieces.
