Vishay Intros ESTA GLI Series Capacitors

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) announced the new ESTA GLI Series of low-inductance, metallized-film, power capacitors designed for dc-linking, voltage-conversion, frequency-conversion and impulse-discharge applications in traction and industrial drives, UPSs, and other power electronics systems.

The capacitors feature what is claimed to be the industry's highest RMS current rating, resulting from the use of an advanced metallized film on the polypropylene dielectric. With a life expectancy of 100,000h at 60 degrees C at voltages from 700Vdc to 2.15kVdc and from 200Vac to 500Vac, the devices offer improved longevity compared to aluminum-electrolytic capacitors.

The capacitors exhibit very low losses at high frequencies, low ESR and a very low inductance value of <30nH. Rated for operation from -40 to +70 degrees C, the devices can operate at up to 100 degrees C at half the rated voltage.

Devices may be customized with a wide range of dielectrics to meet specifications for a variety of ac and dc applications. Integrated flanges enable mounting in close proximity to multi-planar busbars in IGBT applications. The capacitor casing is polyester with a resin polyurethane filling.
