Vishay Debuts Si4838DY and Si4879DY MOSFETs

New Products Jun 03, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology (Malvern, PA) announced that Siliconix Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) has introduced two new Little Foot power MOSFETs for dc/dc converter circuits, including a PWM-optimized n-channel device with a 12V maximum breakdown voltage rating. Both new devices are intended for synchronous rectifier applications, serving low-voltage outputs in dc/dc converters for desktop computers, network or routing cards, stand-alone power supplies, and other line-powered systems where a low-voltage microprocessor is needed.

The new Vishay Siliconix Si4838DY has a 12Vds and is claimed to offer a 40-percent overall performance improvement over any comparable device. It has a maximum on-resistance of 3mW and a typical gate charge of 40nC. For applications where more headroom is required, the new Si4876DY is available. The Si4876DY is a 20V device with 5mW on-resistance and a Qg of 55nC. Siliconix claims that these specifications represent a 10-percent overall improvement compared with any competing device on the market.

Offered in the Little Foot SO-8 package, samples of the Si4838DY and Si4876DY are currently available. Production quantities are also available now, with lead times of 8 to 10 weeks for larger orders.
