Ten Outlet UPS with High Speed Internet Protection from APC

July 21, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

American Power Conversion (West Kingston, RI) has introduced the Back-UPS™ ES 750, a complete broadband power protection solution for home networking equipment. The uninterruptible power supply provides battery backup for a desktop PC, monitor, hub, router, and other data sensitive equipment in case of a power failure. The unit also offers surge protection for high-speed Internet lines including cable modem, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), telephone, Ethernet, single line phone/fax, modem, and DSS (Digital Subscriber Service) systems.

"This innovative unit offers users a great value with up to 70 minutes of battery backup and ten outlets to accommodate several peripherals, all for under $100," said Joe Loberti, general manager, APC Consumer Network Solutions Group. "Home PC users have been looking for a cost-effective solution that protects their hardware, and provides them with availability and data protection at a reasonable cost. The APC Back-UPS ES 750 also protects users from devastating 'backdoor' surges that occur over data lines."

Ten outlets provide enough protection for additional desktop peripherals and can accommodate two transformer block shaped plugs that prevent other receptacles from being blocked. Five battery backup outlets with surge protection keep a CPU, monitor, and other data-sensitive devices up and running when the power goes out. In addition, five surge protection-only outlets protect printers, fax machines or other equipment from surges without reducing battery capacity.

The Back-UPS ES 750 comes equipped with USB (Universal Serial Bus) connectivity and includes APC's PowerChute® Personal Edition software, an easy-to-use, safe, system shutdown tool. Its sophisticated power management functions protect files when the user is away from the computer. The software is compatible with Windows (XP, ME, and 98) and Macintosh OS X (v10.4 or higher) operating systems.

The UPS has a space saving, strip-shaped form factor, user replaceable batteries, and incorporates an intelligent battery management system that maximizes battery performance and reliability. APC's new Back-UPS ES 750 is currently available in North America and carries an estimated resale price of $99.99.
