TDI Unveils New Remote Power Plant

January 23, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

TDI Transistor Devices (Hackettstown, NJ) announced its new Remote Power Plant (RPP), which provides up to 120A of +24Vdc power or up to 60A of –48Vdc power for wireless and access-market applications. The RPP incorporates a complete front-access design with hot-pluggable modules, including rectifiers, monitoring and control units, distribution elements, and battery-management devices. All the RPP modules are field upgradeable and expandable, and have an extended operating temperature range from –40 to +60 degrees C.

The RPP is based on hot-bus-pluggable, power-factor corrected, switch-mode rectifiers. Utilizing the 3GR600 Series rectifiers, the RPP is capable of housing up to six +24V/20A rectifiers or up to six -48V/10A rectifiers with N+1 parallel redundant operation. The RPP comes with a wide range of battery-disconnect devices along with a battery-management (cell-monitoring) option that permits monitoring of up to two battery strings, monitoring and controlling the total dc power system, and cutting down on the frequency of preventative maintenance visits to remote sites, resulting in reduced network maintenance costs.

Pricing for the RPP in 100 pieces is $1,150 for the base system, $255 for the 3GR600 rectifier, and $388 for the basic monitoring and control unit.
