New Products Oct 31, 2016 by Jeff Shepard

Power management company Eaton announced the global launch of its new SPC Series surge protective device, giving its surge protection product line a complete range of surge offerings for a wide variety of applications. The new SPC Series provides flexible, configurable surge protection for commercial and light industrial applications, enabling facility-wide protection to improve business continuity.

Surge events can be devastating for any facility, with the potential to wreak havoc on inadequately protected facilities and disrupt, damage or destroy sensitive microprocessor-based devices. These surge events can also result in premature aging of equipment, process interruptions and catastrophic failures, resulting in business downtime and potential lost revenue for organizations of all sizes.

“Downtime or equipment failure simply isn’t acceptable for a facility manager, so it’s important to give these professionals surge protection solutions that safeguard their mission-critical electrical equipment,” said Tom Colcombe, product manager, Eaton. “The new products complement our existing surge protective solutions and form the foundation for a complete, flexible surge protection strategy.”

Eaton’s new SPC Series device builds on the company’s leadership in surge protection, providing critical flexibility to facility managers for a broad range of applications and serving as an essential component of any surge protection strategy. The new devices feature a compact design that can be configured to protect most electrical applications, including service entrances, distribution panelboards and point-of-use applications, as well as other critical use cases.

Key features of the new SPC Series devices include: Thermally-protected metal oxide varistor (MOV) technology; 20kA nominal discharge current (ln) rating; 50- to 200-kA per phase peak surge current capacity ratings; Configure-to-order with eight custom feature combinations; Corrosion-resistant NEMA 4X enclosure with mounting feet; 200kA short-circuit current rating (SCCR); Factory prewired with 36 inches of 10 AWG wire; No user-serviceable parts or items requiring periodic maintenance; Five-year warranty that can be extended to 10 years with product registration

Additionally, SPC Series devices can be configured with available options that include EMI/RFI filtering, an audible alarm and Form C relay contact.
