Sungrow’s String Inverter Employs Infineon Module and Chip Technology

November 02, 2021 by Gary Elinoff

The 352kW, 1500 VDC Sungrow device offers a 40% increase in output power when compared to the company’s previous best.

Announced in press releases from both Sungrow and from Infineon, Sungrow’s SG350HZX makes use of Infineon’s CoolSic MOSFETs and diodes, as well as the company’s TRENCHSTOP chip technology.

The inverter supports a DC/AC ratio of up to 1.8 and is highly compatible with 182mm and 210mm bifacial modules with a maximum input current of 20 A from each string, allowing for the employment of solar modules of 600 watts and greater. The unit is equipped with 12 maximum power point trackers (MPPT), and with two strings connected to each MPPT, the threat of a string reverse connection is eliminated.

The MPPT’s allow for operation even in lower sunlight exposure. In addition, a single block design of 8.96MW is supported for the European market.

What the Partners are Saying

As described by James Wu, Vice President of Sungrow, “Sungrow is dedicated to paving the way for global carbon neutrality with growing technical innovations. We are accelerating our steps to fulfill the corporate mission of ‘Clean power for all.’” He goes onto say that. “To make this possible, the new SG350HX redefines the super-high power string inverter and helps Sungrow’s customers to reduce the cost of energy.”

Dr. Peter Wawer, President of the Industrial Power Control Division of Infineon asserts that, “We are very pleased to continue our successful collaboration with Sungrow and leverage our technology expertise in the area of renewable energy.” He also maintains that “Leveraging our expertise on technology and production allows us to tailor solutions based on customer needs while giving full support during ramp-up.”

DC Input

Nominal photovoltaic (PV) input voltage is 1080V, and with a maximum of 1500V. Minimum and startup voltages are 500V and 550V, respectively. Maximum PV input current is 40A from each MPPT, and with 12 MPPTs, total maximum current is 12 X 40A for 480A. Maximum short circuit current for each MPPT is 60A,

AC Output

AV output ranges from 352kW at 30 ℃  to 295kW at 50 ℃, with a maximum current of 254A. Nominal 3-phase output voltage 800VAC, with a range of from 640 to 920VAC.
