Stackpole Offers Shielded SMD Power Inductor

December 13, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Stackpole Electronics Inc. has released a new surface-mount, wire-wound, shielded inductor that provides high reliability and enables easy surface mounting in close proximity to other components on the assembly board.

The new PS Series is intended for use in medium to low-frequency resonant circuits for higher-current applications in notebooks, PCs, flash memory devices, converters and other electronic systems. In addition to shielding that enables manufacture of more compact end-products, the new inductor features excellent solderability and resistance to soldering heat.

As a result, designers can integrate greater functionality on available board space without compromising the overall performance and reliability of the end product. A wide range of inductance ratings is available for the PS Series inductor, with values ranging from 1.0µH to 10,000µH.

Standard tolerance is ±20% (±10% is available) over this range and rated current ranges from 1,000mA to 20mA. The PS Series is available in 3 sizes (6.6mm x 4.45mm x 2.9 mm, 12.95mm x 9.4mm x 5.08mm and 18.54mm x 15.24mm x 7.62mm).

The inductor, which features a ferrite construction with a magnetic shield, is rated for an operating temperature range of 40°C to +85°C and is both 100% lead-free and RoHS compliant. It is suitable for reflow soldering and provided in tape and reel packaging to enable automatic handling.
