Siliconix Releases New DG27xx Family of Switches

May 25, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Siliconix Inc. (Santa Clara, CA), a subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA), released its DG27xx family of new analog switches designed for direct battery operation in portable applications. Offering low on-resistance and low-level logic control through the full voltage range of 1.6 V to 4.3 V, the new switches are aimed at end products, including cell phones, set-top boxes, PDAs and media players.

The switches can switch both audio and low-voltage power in portable applications. The devices support continuous currents up to 300 mA. Their ability to run directly from lithium-ion battery power simplifies designs by removing the need for a voltage regulator. All products offer bi-directional signal flow and rail-to-rail signal swing. The DG2799 switch guarantees 1.6 V logic at a 4.3 V power supply. The device features low on-resistance of 0.25 Ω typical at 2.7 V and switching times of 57 ns and 45 ns. It is packaged in a QFN-16 package.

The new DG2714 switch combines low-voltage operation from 1.6 V to 3.6 V, switching times of 51 ns and 33 ns, and on-resistance of 0.85 Ω typical in a compact SC-70 package. The DG2715 and DG2716 are bi-directional switches that feature low-voltage operation from a single 1.65 V to 3.6 V supply, fast switching speeds of 29 ns and 26 ns, and low on-resistance values of 0.4 Ω typical at 2.7 V and 1.5 Ω at 1.8 V. The two switches, available in the SC-70 package, also offer on-resistance flatness of 0.2 Ω.

The DG2741, DG2742 and DG2743 are low-voltage, single-supply, dual analog switches with on-resistance values down to 0.4 Ω typical at 2.7 V, fast switching speeds of 30 ns and 28 ns, and the ability to handle signals over the entire analog voltage range. On-resistance flatness and matching of 0.18 Ω and 0.08 Ω, respectively, ensure high accuracy between channels. The DG274x switches are available in SOT23-8 and MSOP-8 packages.

Offered in lead-free packaging, samples and production quantities of the switches are available now, with lead times of six to eight weeks for larger orders. Pricing for US delivery in 1,000-piece quantities is $0.97 for the DG2799; $0.93 for the DG2741, DG2742 and DG2743; and $0.49 for the DG2714, DG2715 and DG2716.
