May 29, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Shindengen America Inc. (Westlake Village, CA) introduced its new 80A Eclipse Series power system, which provides 80A (-48V) in a 3U package and is temperature hardened for outdoor applications. The system is designed to meet NEBS Level 3 and certification is pending. Applications include central office, digital loop carrier, wireless, controlled environment vault, microwave transmission, and industrial and utility sites.

The 23in rack system utilizes up to four Shindengen TPR20, -48V/20A, switch-mode rectifiers while the 19in rack system uses up to three TPR20 rectifiers. The hot-swappable rectifier modules offer state-of-the-art, switch-mode technology with efficiency levels of 91% (or greater) and a THD of less than 3%. The system operates over a wide ac input range of 85Vac to 264Vac (single-phase).

The advanced intelligent monitoring and control unit provides intuitive graphical system monitoring via a browser and includes the system’s operating status, alarm information, battery conditions and history. System monitoring can be achieved through standard RS232 connection or can be upgraded for web and simple network management protocol interface with the optional LAN card.

Evaluation units for the Eclipse Series are available now.
