New Products Dec 15, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

ROAL Electronics USA Inc. (Los Angeles, CA) introduced its new PS164A high-power density, ac-dc power supply, 12 Vdc output bus for distributed power architecture applications. The PS164A provides 1,600 W output power at high range with automatic input-voltage selection. The PS164A is equipped with a patented digital multi-phase power-factor correction circuit, controlled by a single, low-cost, eight-bit microcontroller.

The power density of the PS164A is up to 12.5 W/in³ in a 10.8 in x 4.9 in x 2.4 in (275 mm x 126 mm x 61 mm) mechanical enclosure, with a 40 mm fan included. The unit accepts universal input voltage extended from 85 Vac to 264 Vac, with 47 Hz to 63 Hz. The nominal output voltage at no load is 54 Vdc ±1% at 25 °C (77 °F). An auxiliary output voltage of +5 Vdc or +8 Vdc standby at 100 mA is also included to supply internal logic control circuits when connected outside in parallel mode with other power supply units. Efficiency is as high as 90%, with an output-voltage tempertaure compensation of –3 mV/cell/°C, working from –5 °C up to +53 °C.

Pricing for the PS164A power supply starts at $449 in volume.
