Recom Offers 3 kW AC-DC Power Supplies in 24 V, 26 V, and 48 V Outputs

The RACM3000-M series offers up to 94% efficiency, comes with CAN Bus and medical approvals, and can operate up to four units in parallel.

Recom has introduced the RACM3000-M series, a family of AC-DC power supplies delivering up to 3,000 W for medical, industrial, and energy applications. The series is the Austrian power supply maker's highest-power AC-DC platform to date, adding CAN bus communication, active current sharing, and medical safety approvals in a single fan-cooled chassis. Recom is showing the supplies at electronica Nov. 10-13, 2026, in Munich.

Input Range, Outputs, and Efficiency

The RACM3000-M accepts a universal input of 90 to 264 VAC at 47 to 63 Hz and delivers full 3,000 W output from 180 to 264 VAC, while low-line operation at 90 VAC supports 1,500 W continuous. An interleaved boost PFC stage maintains a power factor of 0.99.

Three AC-input models are listed in the datasheet:

  • RACM3000-24SM: 24 V nominal (adjustable from 24 to 28 V), up to 125 A, 92.5% typical efficiency
  • RACM3000-36SM: 36 V nominal (33 to 40 V), up to 83.4 A, 93% typical efficiency
  • RACM3000-48SM: 48 V nominal (42 to 53.5 V), up to 62.5 A, 94% typical efficiency

Recom also plans an RDC3000-M variant for 400 to 800 VDC input with a 48 V output. That version targets DC-coupled energy storage and infrastructure systems where a high-voltage DC bus already exists. Its efficiency figures are not yet published.

The supplies measure 278.1mm x 108.8mm x 41.0 mm without connectors and weigh about 2 kg. Based on those dimensions, power density roughly works out to 2.4 kW/L, or about 40 W/in3.

Cooling comes from an integrated, temperature-controlled fan rated at 45 dB at 80% load, measured at 1 m. The datasheet specifies operation from -20°C to 70°C with derating above the full-power limit, and Recom quotes an MTBF of 500,000 hours under Telcordia SR-332. AC input connects through M4 screw terminals, while the DC output uses M5 brass bushings for bus-bar connections.

The RACM3000-M sits well above Recom's previous top AC-DC model, the 1,200 W baseplate-cooled RACM1200-V. The series trades that model's fanless design for forced-air cooling and roughly 2.5 times the output power.

Communication and Parallel Operation

Rather than PMBus, Recom has built CAN bus into the RACM3000-M for monitoring and control, including programming of output voltage and current limits. An onboard potentiometer also trims the output voltage. A 5 V/2 A always-on standby rail powers system controllers while the main output is off. The supply also provides isolated remote on/off and remote sense compensating up to 500 mV of cable drop. It features a multicolor status LED and a DC-OK signal that drops at least 5 ms before the output falls on AC loss.

Recom recommends the RACM3000-M as a platform that pairs high output power with built-in communication and scalability.

For scaling, a current-share pin enables active load sharing across up to four identical units, or 1+1 redundant configurations. Optional versions with integrated OR-ing FETs (suffix /OR) isolate a failed unit from the shared bus without external diodes. Those /OR versions also support series connection, so two 48 V units can provide 96 V or a +/-48 V split rail.

Protection features include auto-recovering short-circuit and overcurrent protection, triggered at 125% to 137% of rated current, along with latching overvoltage and overtemperature shutdown.

Safety Approvals for Medical and Charging Systems

Recom has certified the series to several application-specific standards, allowing a single design to serve markets that typically require separate supplies. Approvals include UL/CSA 62368-1 for ICT and industrial equipment, ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 and IEC 60601-1 for medical electrical equipment, and IEC/EN 60335-2-29 for battery chargers. The supplies also meet SEMI F47 for voltage-sag immunity in semiconductor fab equipment.

On the medical side, the design provides reinforced insulation and 2 MOPP isolation from input to output, rated at 4 kVAC under IEC 60601-1. Touch current stays below 100 µA in normal operation and 500 µA under single-fault conditions, and the supply is suitable for type BF applied parts. EMC compliance covers EN 55032 and IEC 60601-1-2 Edition 4.1.

Recom lists target applications including battery charging systems, collaborative robots, automated medical analysis and diagnostic equipment, machine control, communication infrastructure, energy storage, and data centers. The company also offers customized versions on a project basis.
