Radius Power Presents New R65 Power Supply Unit

February 11, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Radius Power Inc. (Orange, CA) introduced its new R65 power supply unit, which is a 65W, single-output, power supply unit in the industry-standard 3in x 5in footprint with a 30-percent increase in thermal performance for reliable operation in smaller packages. The units are designed for OEMs and end-users involved in the design and manufacturing of process and industrial controls, materials handling equipment, vending and gaming machines, office equipment, and networking equipment.

A key feature of the new R65 family is its ability to operate at full loads to 60°C compared to 40°C to 45°C, which allows OEMs designers to more closely match the power supply specifications without having to over-specify the power supply unit for thermal degradation leading to smaller more reliable units that require less cooling.

The R65 features a universal auto-ranging input voltage from 90Vac to 265Vac; full compliance to industrial and commercial EMI/EMC and safety specifications, including UL1950, CSA 1402-3, EN60950, EN55022 Class B, and EN6100-4-4; short-circuit protection; one-percent Vp-p at maximum load; +1-percent line and load regulation; output ratings ranging from 5V to 48V; continuous output power of 65W; and currents from 1.35A to 12A.

Available off-the-shelf, the R65 is priced around $35 in 100-piece quantities. Custom modifications and complete assemblies are also available.
