Pulse Intros Toroidal DC/DC Transformers

January 07, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Pulse Engineering (San Diego, CA) introduced an expanded series of gate-drive transformers in surface-mount, toroidal packages, offering designers a compact alternative that meets basic insulation requirements. The new components minimize electromagnetic interference radiation in dc/dc brick or discrete power supplies in a broad range of distributed power systems. Applications include telecom and datacom networks, industrial control systems, vehicles, and heavy equipment systems.

With package sizes beginning at 7.2mm x 6.1mm and height profiles starting at 2.5mm, the dc/dc gate-drive transformers shrink the size of new electronic devices. The compact, surface-mount packaging is compatible with all contemporary pick-and-place processes.

The series comprises eight part numbers with either a one-to-one or one-to-one-to-one turn-ratio configuration. Inductance values are from 330µh to 1,400µh. DC resistance is as low as 0.52 ohms while providing 1,500Vdc isolation for power supply switching devices. An extended operating temperature range of -30 to +130 degrees C ensures stability with less temperature drift throughout the entire temperature range of the converter.

The new transformers are currently available in tape-and-reel packaging, with prices starting at $0.30 per unit.
