Power-One Unveils NHS Series Power Supplies

May 28, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) introduced the NHS Series of ac/dc front-end power supplies, which are based on a Power-One rectifier series with an installed base of over 28,000 units demonstrating an MTBF in excess of 700,000 hours. Designed for distributed power architecture applications, models are available with outputs of 48V at 63A, or 24V at 125A using an input of 180Vac to 264Vac.

The new power-factor-corrected products feature a power density of over 9W/in³. Hot-swap capability and N+1 redundancy with single-wire, active current sharing is standard. Signals include power-fail, power-good, remote-sense, logic-level inhibit and thermal shutdown. Protection features include over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature. Overall dimensions, including an integral fan, are 5in x 5in x 12.5in. Agency approvals include UL1950, CSA 950 and EN60950 (TUV).

Pricing for the NHS Series is approximately $1,600 each in quantities of one to nine. Evaluation units are usually available from stock. Production quantities are typically available in 8 to 10 weeks. To facilitate integration of multiple NHS front-ends, including N+1 redundancy, Power-One offers three-bay and four-bay power shelves for use with standard 19in and 23in racks.
