Power-One Releases High-Current POL Converters For Blade Server & Communications Applications

April 09, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One, Inc. introduced three new high-current Point-of-Load (POL) converters. These 40, 50, and 60A non-isolated dc-dc converters utilize multiphase-synchronous-buck topologies to deliver up to 93% efficiencies in high-power-density packages designed for space-critical blade server and communications applications.

Wide input ranges (5 – 13.8V) combined with user-defined outputs (0.6 – 3.6V) significantly reduce the number of model numbers required in inventory. Advanced thermal-management techniques facilitate a 0 to 70°C operating range with what is described as best-in-class elevated-temperature performance. Additional features include: tightly regulated outputs, no minimum load requirements, the capability to start up into pre-biased loads, and low-noise fixed-frequency operation.

Protections include overcurrent, output overvoltage, and overtemperature with automatic restart. Interface capabilities include Power Good signals and Enable inputs. Safety agency approvals include: UL60950, CSA C22.2 No. 60950-00, TUV EN60950-1:2001, and UL94 V-0 flammability ratings.

The 40A, horizontal-mount YH09T40 utilizes an industry-standard 1.45 x 1.115" (36.83 x 28.32mm) footprint and a 0.5" (12.7mm) height. The 50A, vertical-mount YV09T50 utilizes an industry-standard 1.45 x 0.725" (36.83 x 18.41mm) SIP footprint and a 1.115" (28.32mm) height. The 60A, vertical-mount YV09T60 utilizes an industry-standard 2.58 x 0.628" (65.5 x 16mm) SIP footprint, and a 1.25" (31.8mm) height.

Unit pricing for 1,000 piece quantities of 40, 50, and 60A models is $18.00, $20.00, and $23.50, respectively. Evaluation models are usually available from stock. Production quantities are typically available in 10 to 12 weeks.
