Power-One Intros PALS400 Power Supply

New Products Jun 01, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) introduced its new 400W PALS400 ac/dc power supply, specifically designed for power-over-LAN applications. The fully enclosed power supply is compliant to IEEE’s 802.3AF and provides isolation of 2,250Vdc between the main output, all other outputs and interface signals. The low noise and ripple outputs of 12Vdc at 16A and 48Vdc at 8A are complimented with a 12Vdc at 500mA standby output to facilitate I2C interface operation.

The power-dense product (6.25W/in³) 10.4in x 4in x 1.6in package is designed for 1U-high applications and features a front panel that includes alarm and monitor LEDs, an ac input connector, an on/off switch, an integral handle and a fan inlet. The hot-swap, SSI-type, rear connector provides output power and access to I2C, power-fail, active-current share, remote-sense, output-good, power-supply present and remote-enable interface signals.

Other features include internal-diode isolation for redundant operation, an 85Vac to 264Vac input range, full-power operation to 50°C with power-derated operation to 70°C, IEC61000-3-2 compliance, 98% efficient power-factor correction, and inrush-current limiting. Protection features include overload and short-circuit, brownout, over-temperature, fan-fail and shutdown, output over-voltage, and MOV-input-transient protection. Agency approvals include UL60950/CSA 22.2 No. 60950, and EN60950 (TUV).

Pricing for the PALS400 is $350 each in quantities of 100. Evaluation units are available from stock to eight weeks. Production quantities have typical lead time of 8 to 10 weeks.
