Power-One DC-Input Front Ends Utilize the Same Racks as AC-Input Solutions

June 11, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One, Inc. introduced the dc-input SFD550-12BG DPA/IBA front end. This 12Vout product utilizes the same packaging and backplane connectors as Power-One’s SFP450 and SFP650 front ends, providing customers with what are claimed to be dc-input solutions that do not require any redesign of their existing ac-input racks or backplane connectors.

The 45A SFD550-12BG employs a networking configuration that provides a readily accessible, front-mounted input-power connector. Other features include: I²C interface status and control, -40 to -75V input range, 3.3V @ 3.1A standby output, NEBS Level 3 compliance (GR-63, 78, 1089), internal ORing diodes, and a two-speed fan that reduces acoustic noise.

I²C-interface capabilities include enabling the output, controlling internal fan speed, and setting the output current limit. Power supply management is also accomplished via front-mounted LED status indicators and a comprehensive range of logic signals. Protections include: output overvoltage, output overcurrent, and overtemperature. Ultra-compact 12.4 x 3.1 x 1.6 inch (314.5 x 78 x 40mm) overall dimensions facilitate low profile 1U and 2U rack configurations. The SFD550-12BG is RoHS compliant and displays the CE mark for the European Low Voltage Directive.

Pricing is $265 each in quantities of 1000. Evaluation models are usually available from stock. Production quantities are typically available in six to eight weeks.
