Phihong Develops 4-Port, 36W Per Port, High-Power Midspan

January 27, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Phihong USA has introduced a 4-port Gigabit Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) midspan for high-power applications. Designated the POE125U-4HP, the midspan provides up to 36W of power per port, making it suitable for powering wireless access points, IP cameras and security systems.

"The POE125U is designed to meet the criteria set by IEEE802.3at for high-power PoE," said Keith Hopwood, Vice President of Marketing, Phihong USA. "The midspan offers full power for 4 broadband access points or security cameras with heaters in a small size at a very low cost."

Phihong midspans are designed for gigabit systems to enable high power and broadband applications together. The company states that the midspans can be applied to any network without compromising the data rate, without having to check compatibility.

The POE125U features IEEE 802.3af detection and disconnect, as well as pre-standard IEEE802.3at classification. It offers full power support to Cisco AP1250 access points and is rack-mountable. The midspan also provides over-voltage, over-current, and short-circuit protection.

Single piece pricing for Phihong’s POE125U 4-port midspan is $169.
