Oriental Motor Unveils RK Series Stepping Motor

September 19, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Oriental Motor USA Corp. (Torrance, CA) introduced the new RK Series, offering both the high resolution and smooth motion of a five-phase microstepping system and the

simplicity of a full-step system. Motor shaft vibrations and audible noises are significantly reduced by the new "Smooth Drive" function, in which the driver microsteps internally.

The RK drive system achieves step-by-step accuracies of less than 0.036 degrees in a 20

microstep per full step condition. The new series also offers both tapered hob (TH) and low backlash planetary (PN) gearhead

options. Holding torques range from 11.0lb-in with a step-by-step resolution of 0.2

degrees for the 2.36insq frame size stepping motor with a 3.6:1 TH gearhead

(RK564AA-T3.6) to 327lb-in with a step-by-step resolution of 0.014 degrees for the

3.54insq frame size stepping motor with a 50:1 PN gearhead (RK596AA-N50). Holding

torques for round shaft models range from 59oz-in (RK564AA) to 892oz-in (RK5913AA).

The new driver circuitry improves acceleration rates while maintaining superior low vibration (resonance) performance. Higher acceleration results in faster machine

throughput and savings in machine cycle times. The driver is available in single-phase 100Vac to 115Vac and single-phase 200Vac to 230Vac input versions.
