NPC Introduces New SM6781BV Control IC

August 22, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Nippon Precision Circuits Inc. (NPC, Japan) introduced the SM6781BV quick charge control IC for NiMH and NiCd rechargeable batteries. Featuring precise detection of voltage charge when the battery is fully charged, the chip enables secure, full charging of rechargeable batteries.

The device comes with an abnormal detection function to monitor voltage conditions and suspend charging when any abnormality is detected. Suspension of charging remains until a normal condition is restored. It also features three selectable charge timers (80 minutes, 2 hours and 4 hours), a charge condition LED indicator and standby mode.

The IC operates from 4V to 5.5V. It is housed in an eight-pin VSOP enabling the design of compact, highly reliable battery chargers.

Samples are quoted at $1.67 each.
