Molex Expands Power Edge™ Product Line to Include Signal Contact Connectors
Molex Inc. has expanded the Power Edge™ offering to include signal and mixed-power and signal assemblies. The new Power Edge signal contact connectors provide compact, reliable solutions for direct mating in high-power and signal card edge or bus bar tab applications. Available as vertical signal, power or mixed-power and signal assemblies, both versions are offered in either press-fit or solder tail terminations to fit standard PCBs or backplanes.
By offering 40.0A per contact, the Power Edge signal contact connectors are claimed by the company to offer 20% more amperage than those offered by other companies. Additionally, the Power Edge signal contact connectors are available in two, three and four segments, offering greater flexibility than competitive products that only offer a two or three segment connector. Also, Power Edge connectors can be stacked end-to-end in a variety of signal or mixed-power combinations, saving space and enabling them to mate with double-sided card edge lengths of up to 203.2mm (8.0"). These newly added signal and mixed-power and signal assemblies are aptly suited for telecommunication applications such as networking, switches and routers; cellular communication equipment and mid to high range computing applications such as servers and storage systems for power supply and backplane architectures.

Power Edge signal contact connectors have isolated contacts on both sides of the connector assembly segment. These enable four independent circuits on each of the upper and lower side of the segment and make it possible for connector combinations of eight signal circuits per segment. The Power Edge connectors are rated for current interruption, matching true hot-plugging requirements. They are also compatible with competitive connectors, suitable for use as a drop-in replacement. Power Edge connectors are priced from $3.48 each. Lead time is four to six weeks.
