MINUTEMAN UPS Launches SENTRYII Software
MINUTEMAN UPS (Carrollton, TX) released a redesigned and enhanced version of its widely used Sentry power management and diagnostic software. The new SentryII software can be used to monitor and shut down a single workstation or an entire network, whether or not each individual computer on the network is attached to its own UPS. SentryII allows network administrators to monitor, control and shut down computers in a logical order anywhere in the world through a single UPS, using IP addresses and a web browser.
"SentryII represents a significant advancement in UPS power-management software because it is not limited to use with a single operating system, nor does it require that every computer on the network have an RS232 or USB port," said Randy Robinson, MIS director for MINUTEMAN UPS. "Most power-management software is limited to controlling computers that share a single operating system, and many programs require that a certain brand of UPS be attached to every computer to be managed. SentryII avoids these requirements and extends power-management protection to every client or server computer on a network."
The SentryII software has two component programs. A "master server" program is installed on one computer and a "remote client" program is installed on all other computers to be controlled by the master server. The SentryII interface screens are clean, intuitive, and consistently graphical, and require little disk space and processing power. Regardless of network configurations, SentryII software gives network administrators greater flexibility in monitoring and controling power events affecting their computer operations worldwide using direct connections, LANS or WANs, or the Internet."
