Microsemi Intros LX8817 LDO Power Regulator

February 05, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Microsemi Corp. (Irvine, CA) announced the introduction of its new dual-channel low-dropout (LDO) regulator designed to save circuit board space and reduce end-product design cycles. The new LX8817 is a 2.5A dual-channel positive-voltage linear regulator having one fixed and one adjustable output. Typical applications include 3.3V to 2.5V adjustable linear regulators, low-voltage logic supplies, active SCSI terminators, battery-charging circuits, and instrumentation and PC peripherals.

On-chip trimming of the LX8817's internal voltage reference ensures precise regulation of output voltages, typically ±1 percent of its specified value. Maximum dropout is 0.6V at its rated current. The new LDO also features independent thermal and short-circuit protection in a design that optimizes system efficiency by consuming minimal ground current and directing quiescent current to the load.

In 50,000 quantities, the LX8817 is priced at $0.66, with production quantities available for immediate delivery.
