Mean Well Announces New 60W AC-DC Enclosed Type Switching Power Supplies

MEAN WELL introduced two new product series for the purpose of LED lighting – the CLG-60 and PLN-60 series – 60W ac-dc enclosed type switching power supplies with active PFC function.

These limited power sources comply with UL 1310 class 2 so that, under any situation, the output power will be less than 100VA or 5A. This is intended to significantly reduce the hazardous conditions for technicians who execute the construction or maintenance of the LED lightening system. The high IP level design (IP67 for CLG-60 series & IP64 for PLN-60 series) can protect the electronic components from dust and moisture, making them suitable for indoor or outdoor locations. The CLG-60 series is waterproof and can even be immersed in water up to 1 meter.

Thanks to the simplified single stage PFC topology, the required high power factor for the lighting industry can be achieved economically. The efficiency of the CLG-60 and PLN-60 are as high as 88% and hence can operate between -30 – +70°C by free air convection. Standard functions include short circuit, over load, over voltage, and over temperature protections. The CLG-60, internally fully glued and possessing a higher IP level, is targeted at the market of harsh operating conditions and uses an aluminum case as the enclosure to enhance the mechanical strength; while the PLN-60 series with an adjustable output voltage/current level uses a fully enclosed plastic case due to cost concerns and targets the market for which only a lower level of waterproofing is needed.

Typical applications for these new Class 2 power units include moving signs and backlighting, LED-based decorative/architectural lighting, LED stage and theater lighting, and LED electronic displays.
