Maxim Announces Small Overvoltage Protectors With USB Charger Detection & ESD Protection
Maxim Integrated Products introduced the MAX14529E/MAX14530E overvoltage protectors (OVPs) with USB charger detection. These devices employ an integrated MOSFET to protect low-voltage systems against voltage faults up to 28V, thus eliminating the need for an external nFET.
Additionally, the MAX14529E/MAX14530E provide high-current USB charger detection and robust, ±15kV ESD protection (Human Body Model) – all in a 3mm² package. Offering what the company describes as the industry’s smallest solution footprint, these OVPs are well suited for cell phones, media players, PDAs, and other space-constrained applications.
The MAX14529E/MAX14530E are available in a tiny, 1.5 x 2mm, 12-bump wafer-level package (WLP), and are fully specified over the -40 to +85° extended temperature range. Prices start at $1.40 (1000-up, FOB USA).
