Maxim 5 x 5mm PMIC Integrates All Functional Blocks Required to Power LCD TV Panels
Maxim Integrated Products announced the MAX17113, a fully integrated PMIC that is said to minimize solution size and cost in LCD TVs. This device integrates a boost regulator, a buck regulator, adjustable positive and negative charge-pump regulators, and a p-channel MOSFET switch. Fabricated using Maxim’s proprietary high-voltage BiCMOS process, the 5 x 5mm MAX17113 integrates all function blocks required to power the LCD source drivers, gate drivers, and panel logic. According to Maxim, it thus provides a cost-effective power solution for large LCD panels.
The boost and buck regulators have a selectable 450kHz/600kHz switching frequency and feature internal 20V power MOSFETs. The boost regulator delivers output voltages up to 20V from an 8 to 16.5V input while achieving > 85% efficiency; the buck regulator has an adjustable 1.5 to 5V output. The integrated charge-pump regulators provide the TFT gate-driver supply voltage. A pFET is included for AVdd sequencing, thus eliminating the need for an external pFET in series with the input supply.
The MAX17113 is available in a 5 x 5mm, 40-pin TQFN package and is fully specified over the -40 to +85°C extended temperature range. Prices start at $1.30 (1000-up, FOB USA).
