LTC Intros LTC2921/LTC2922 Power Controllers

New Products Nov 03, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) introduced its new LTC2921 and LTC2922 power supply tracking controllers for up to five, high-current supplies. Tracking ensures that multiple supplies ramp-up at the same time and at the same rate protecting ASICs, processors and other circuitry from lock-up or more severe damage.

The input monitors ensure the supply integrity of five supplies (LTC2921) or five supplies (LTC2922) before ramping up the supplies. The devices utilize n-channel MOSFETs to ensure that supplies track. Following successful ramp-up, remote-sense switches allow the regulators to close the loop around the MOSFETs and compensate for the voltage drop. A circuit breaker monitors the primary supply for over-current faults. The LTC2921 and LTC2922 include a power-good output capable of driving another MOSFET and allowing sequencing of another supply.

The LTC2921 with five input monitors and three remote-sense switches is available in the narrow SSOP-16 package. Pricing begins at $3.15 each in 1,000-piece quantities. The LTC2922 with five input monitors and five remote-sense switches is available in the SSOP-20 package. Pricing begins at $3.40 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
