Lambda Launches 500W Harsh-Environment Power Supply

New Products Jun 15, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Lambda Power has launched a new harsh-environment 500w power supply, the LZSa500-3, with a unique feature set and safety-agency approvals not commonly found on a standard off-the-shelf supply. A wide temperature range, compliance with MIL-STD-810 standards for shock and vibration, and the ability to operate in explosive gas atmospheres make the LZSa500-3 well-suited for use in a variety of applications, such as COTS, outdoor displays and chemical processing.

The rugged new power supply is available with a nominal 24v output, adjustable from 18 to 29.4 volts to accommodate non-standard system voltages, and can provide a full load of 21-amps output current from -40°C to +60°C, de-rating linearly to 60% load at 71°C ambient. The LZSa500-3 accepts a wide input range – from 85 to 265Vac, 47 to 440Hz – and has active power factor correction. It also complies with SEMI F47 standards for input droop, down to 100Vac at full load. Output ripple and noise is a low 75 millivolts peak-to-peak, and the unit is designed to provide 20-microsecond hold-up and ride-through to avoid nuisance tripping during electrical interruptions. The LZSa500-3 is equipped with remote on/off, remote resistance or voltage programming, user-adjustable over-voltage protection, dc good, inverter fail, current-share, and a 200kHz synchronization signal.

The unit comes in a 4.25- x 4.75- x 10.25-inch package and has been tested to MIL-STD-810E shock and vibration standards (method 516.4 proc. I, II, IV and VI; method 514.4, categories 1 and 9). The new Lambda power supply meets Class B EMI standards (radiated and conducted) and is safety-approved to UL60950-1, EN60950-1, UL508, FM3600, FM3611 and FM3810 specifications. It also meets IEEE C62.41 (6kV/30 Ohm, criteria A) and EN61000-4-X immunity standards. All units are RoHS-compliant and carry the CE mark. The LZSa500-3 is available now, priced at $620 each in 50-unit quantities.
