New Products Feb 10, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Lambda Electronics Inc. (San Diego, CA) debuted its new PAE family of high-efficiency, eighth-brick, dc-dc converters, which are suitable for telecommunications and data communications systems, or for systems using distributed power architectures that need to comply with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive.

The PAE50 and PAE100 Series are rated up to 20 A and 30 A, respectively, and both series are available with 1.8 V, 2.5 V, 3.3 V and 5 V outputs; the 3.3 V and 5 V models achieving efficiencies of as high as 90%. The units are rated for operation at from -40 °C to +85 °C, and can be cooled by either convection or forced air.

Features include over-current and over-voltage protection, remote sensing, output adjustment trim, and remote on/off capability. Units measure 0.9 in x 2.28 in x 0.33 in and share the industry-standard eighth-brick pin out. In addition to being RoHS-compliant, the dc-dc converters are CE marked and safety approved to UL60950, CSA60950 and EN60950 specifications.

The PAE50 and PAE100 Series are available now, with prices starting at $38 in 1,000-unit quantities.
