Lambda Announces Low Acoustic Noise Power Supplies For Indoor & Outdoor Applications

September 26, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Lambda Power has introduced a new family of what are described as low cost, low noise and low profile 600W single output ac-dc power supplies that meet a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications including LED displays/signage, self-serve kiosks, automatic test equipment (ATE) and factory automation.

The SWS600L series offers a choice of six different output voltages including 3.3, 5, 12V, 24, 36, 48 and 60V. For non-standard system voltages it boasts a wide output voltage adjustment range of up to +/-20%. On most models, the use of an external 1-6V input enables the supply to be remotely adjusted over the wide range of from 20% to 120% of its nominal output voltage. For example, the 36V model can be remotely adjusted down to 7.2V and up to 43.2V. According to the company, this feature allows the SWS600L series to be used as inexpensive programmable supplies for test and measurement applications.

The 24V model has a peak output power of 744W. Important standard features include active power factor correction, high input transient protection, remote on/off, a 12V/0.1A auxiliary output, fan fail alarm, green LED on-indicator, and a dc output good signal. Operating over a temperature range from -20 and +74°C with a low temperature start-up capability (100% load start up at -40°C), it is said to be a reliable choice for systems that experience temperature extremes, such as outdoor road traffic signs. Meanwhile, the inclusion of a temperature-controlled fan that minimizes the acoustic noise means that the SWS600L is equally suited for indoor applications such as powering laboratory equipment, vending machines, kiosks and animated advertisement signs.

The SWS600L is small in size and easily fits into 2U enclosures, with a low profile of just 2.4" high and length of only 7.48". The air vents on the front and rear of the supplies facilitate zero stacking capability, allowing up to five units to be stacked one on top of the other without requiring gaps between them. Meanwhile, an active current share feature enables multiple units to share the load evenly when they are used together for high load and/or redundant applications.

The SWS600L operates with a universal input from 85 to 265Vac. With an input transient protection that meets IEC61000-4, the SWS600L has been shock tested to satisfy MIL-STD-810F 516.5 Procedure I, VI and vibration tested to MIL-STD-810F 514.5 Category 4, 10. The SWS600L is CE marked and meets Class B EMI standards and is safety-approved to UL, CSA, EN60950-1, IEC61010-1, and EN50178.

The SWS600L series are available now and priced from $195 each in 50-unit quantities.
