Kepco Intros RKE Series Switch-Mode Power Supplies

New Products Apr 06, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Kepco Inc. (Flushing, NY) introduced its new RKE Series of power converters, which offer active power-factor correction, FCC/VDE Class B compliance, wide-output adjustment range, N + 1 redundant operation, remote on/off, and a five-year warranty in two models: 48 V (1,500 W) and 24 V/28 V (1,200 W). The converters are suitable as a bulk power supply for distributed power applications, and a rectangular current limit feature also makes them suitable for battery-charging applications.

The converters are lightweight (less than 7 lbs), compact (less than 160 in³), and fully enclosed/shielded to deliver either 24 Vdc or 48 Vdc, to run distributed power systems, motors, actuators or heaters. The universal ac input (85 Vac to 265 Vac) is at home with either 115 Vac or 230 Vac, though they produce significantly more output at the higher input voltage, and should be run from 200 V to 240 V mains wherever possible. The RKE's MOSFET switch operates at a switching frequency of 140 KHz to provide well over 80% conversion efficiency. Their clean dc output features both over-voltage protection and over-current limiting for intrinsic safety.
